Most of the time, your vape will work without a hitch. In fact, many who make the switch from cigarette smoking to vaping are pleasantly surprised just how fuss-free their device is to use. But as with any product, things can and do occasionally go wrong. And if your vape isn’t switching on, it isn’t charging up, or power is draining much sooner than it should, it may well be the battery that’s the source of the problem.
Like all other electrics, your vape could run into issues. But the good news is that there are some quick and easy checks and fixes you can run to determine the source of the problem and potentially put it right, ensuring your vape battery can last.
If you suspect ePod, ePen or eTank battery issues, work through this list of troubleshooting solutions.
Check the charging port
You may find your device doesn’t turn back on or begin charging once you’ve plugged in, switched on and attached your eTank or ePod charger cable. In situations like these, the charging port on the device is often the cause of the problem.
When you carry your device around with you, particularly in pockets and bags, the charging port can gradually accumulate debris such as dust and fibres from clothing. Over time, this built-up can stop your charger connecting with the port properly. Inspect the charging port to see if you can spot any debris that could be the cause. It often helps to use a bright light such as the torch on your phone.
Check the Micro USB cable
Vuse devices use a Micro USB cable for speedy and efficient device charging. But if your device won’t charge up and the charging port appears clear, it may be the cable that’s the problem.
Inspect your Micro USB cable for any obvious breaks or damage. Even if you can’t spot any problems, it’s worth testing the cable with another compatible device (while using a different plug socket/USB port) to see if the problem persists. If it does, the cable is the cause and will need to be replaced. Thankfully, these are cheap and easy to find at large supermarkets and electronics stores.
Check the USB source
To charge your device, you’ll need to connect your charging cable to a USB port. This could be via a device such as a laptop or TV, direct to a socket in the wall, or through a USB to plug pin adapter. If the charging port on your vape is clear of debris and the cable is working fine with other devices, this USB power source may be the root of the problem.
Inspect the power port or plug for any obvious signs of damage or burnout. Try charging your vape via a different device’s USB port or an alternative wall socket. If that fixes the problem, the USB source will be the cause. It’s best to get a professional to repair any malfunctioning plug sockets around your home, and avoid using it in the meantime.
Check for any damage to the battery or contacts
Vapes like ours are powered by a lithium-ion battery. And as with any battery in an electronic device, these can become damaged in extreme circumstances.
There are some common tell-tale signs that wear or damage has occurred. If you can access your vape’s battery area, check for physical damage, rust or corrosion to the battery or contact points. You may be able to carefully clean these areas with a dry cloth to get things working again, though the damage or wear may be too far gone to repair.
Check for water ingress or leaks
It shouldn’t come as news to anybody that liquids and electrics are an unhappy combination. There are all kinds of reasons your battery could have gotten wet, from rain water seeping in to a dreaded drop into the bath or toilet. It’s also possible that the ePod cartridges or eLiquid tank you’re using have been damaged or are faulty, leading to liquid leaking into the battery area of your device. Either way, a wet battery will often stop working fairly quickly.
If your vape device allows, access the battery area and clean with a dry cloth, then carefully blow to dislodge any build-up of dirt. Also dry the external parts of the device, including any cracks and around buttons. Then leave the device to one side for a few hours to allow for further drying. Your vape may come back on once all is dry, though irreparable damage to the electrics is a possibility.
Time to buy a new device
Unfortunately, there are some vape battery problems that cannot be resolved. If you can’t get your vape up and running again, products like our Vuse ePod 2 Device Kit are a suitable replacement. You can then take your pick of ePod Pod flavours and nicotine strengths to use with your new device.
