When the ban was announced and what exactly it means
The government announced in January 2024 that it intends to ban disposable vapes and will bring in legislation as soon as possible. The government has not yet produced the necessary legislation. They have however been clear that the legislation will allow for an implementation period of at least six months to give businesses time to adapt.
The specifics of the ban, including a definition of disposable vapes, have not been announced yet. Vape products will still be available for over-18s to purchase, but it is expected that they will only take the form of non-disposable vapes such as pods and pens or tanks.

Flavour restrictions:
Ministers have also considered bringing in measures to restrict vape flavours. The specifics of the restrictions have not yet been confirmed, but it is likely that flavours that are deemed to be targeted at under-18s will no longer be allowed.
Why the ban was announced:
The government has announced the ban for two reasons. First, the government is concerned by underage use of disposable vapes and believe that a ban will discourage under-18s from vaping. Second, the government believes that disposable vapes are harmful to the environment.
A wider move to a smoke-free future
In 2023, the government announced they were attempting to create a ‘smoke-free generation’ by banning the sale of cigarettes to anyone born on or after January 1, 2009.
How the disposable vape ban will impact nicotine users
Vape users who already use re-fillable devices should see no change, but new flavour restrictions may affect the range of flavour choice available to them.
The future of Vuse in a post-disposable vape ban world
Vuse will continue to innovate in the world of vapes, for those looking to switch from smoking.
Vuse products will still be available in supermarkets and other stores, and the brand will continue to innovate and stay at the forefront of technology when it comes to nicotine products.
